Brain Drain

I feel as if I'm learning all over again. This entire week I have had the strangest headaches. Monday I experienced 10 seconds of pain that felt like a tsunami in my head - every time I stood up. Tuesday that subsided a bit, but I started feeling pain in my head whenever I turned it or moved my eyes too fast. Wednesday the same pain and at night I was weak and had a fever of 99. Thursday morning was just fine and I realized that Tylenol at 9am kept my head pain-free until 5pm (up until then I had been taking Allegra thinking it was allergy issues). Today I'm keeping the Tylenol going .. woke up with pain and it lasted til the pill kicked in. I always bug my mom about how Tylenol is her mithai (sweets) and that she can't go a day without it, and now I'm hoping I don't turn into her!

I feel fine otherwise and it's not allergies so I can't find a reason. What makes the most sense is that my brain is just strained. My mom has these symptoms after a long day of woking where her head gets really hot - same thing happened to me and at times I had to clutch my head to make it stop spinning. The top of it felt like fire. I'm thinking this is because I haven't been in the real corporate world for almost 2 years now. I've been on my own schedule and haven't had too much stress (most days). But now I have to get up at 5:30am - get to work by 8am - get home by 7pm - sleep by 11pm. Way too much for someone who would get up between 7 and 10am and work on her own schedule.

So I'm hoping my brain catches up and gets used to this SOON. I can't afford this tylenol dependency and pain every time I have to turn around. Hubby says I have to keep working hard or else my brain will degenerate and I'll become a retard. How sweet you are =) haha. But it's true .. if this is happening after not being at a job for 2 years - i can't imagine what it will be like if I decide to stay at home with the kids for a few years and then go back to work!

Here's hoping my brain gets smarter =)

Laptop Love Triangle

You have to read this article if you have a laptop:

Article Link

Before I started working in the real world, I worked from my bed. That was my office, my hangout area and my sleep area. Hubby and I always come home, eat, and then bust out our laptops which we stay on for the rest of the evening. He's either doing work or looking at houses and housing market trends (his passion) and I'm either working for the job or for IWS. Unless there's a really good show on (King of Queens or Lost), both of us are looking at our laptops.

The article addresses different consequences but I don't think we fit into any of them entirely. We're not trying to avoid each other by sitting in front of our laptops, it doesn't replace the tv because that's on too - I think we just have a lot of work to do and there's only so much -looking into each other's eyes and talking- you can do. We get that done on the way home from work =)

So point being, I don't see our laptop habits changing. Until we have kids. Then we will use them solely for playing music and doing bhangra on the bed.

(P.S. I'm still alive, even though I'm barely posting anymore. Work has been kicking my butt and then coming home and working is killing me. I don't think I've ever been so busy. To the point where I feel guilty leaving my laptop for a few hours on the weekend in case the boss emails - and OH how he emails! Ok now off to make lunch - this week we have turkey sandwiches, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and chicken patty sandwiches.)

Me Me Me

I'm alive! And going onto my fourth day of work =)

Wow, this work thing is tough! However, more tough is waking up at 5:20am. What the hell is up with that! But luckily I get to catch the same train as hubby for most of the way before I transfer, and also on the way back. Makes my morning and evening better =)

Work has been good - tons of stuff to do and lots of responsibility. But no boss on my butt like my last job. He does expect a LOT but I actually feel like I matter here. Even if I don't have an office or a cube yet and have set up base in a conference room =) They ordered my new laptop and I should have it next week.

By the way, I hate Dell. With a passion. If I had high blood pressure, I would have been in the hospital last week. Just never buy a Dell - unless you plan on never having to communite with their wonderful tech support in India, South America and the Philipines. Oh, and if you want to speak with someone in America, specify the United States of America .. or else you WILL get South America. Those sneaky bastards.

Ok the evening is just not long enough for me to get everything done. It's 9:30 - lunch making time. Oh the fun life I now lead.

Things I Like

*I love organic milk. If you haven't tasted it, you need to go find some. I grew up on whole milk (I'm sure that sounds disgusting to most of you - it makes my husband gag). When I moved out here, I was introduced to 2% and developed a liking for it. As I began to eat healthier, I switched to 1% but it always tasted watery. Fat free was just plain water. Then I tasted 1% organic milk and my mouth exploded. I normally don't like drinking milk but this stuff is great. It tastes so creamy, without the heaviness - and it's still 1%. It also lasts longer than regular milk. At Costco I believe it's only $1-$2 more than regular - totally worth it! Go find some!

*We finally went shopping for bathroom mats after 3 years! We've had some hideous hand-me-downs from the inlaws. When I came back from Cali a couple days ago, I discovered raggedy pink ones that reminded me of an old lady living alone. Oh, it was disturbing. I knew I couldn't wake up to that at 5am. So we went to Target and got some great green mats. I love 'em! We also found new towels that are sooo nice and soft. And of course walked out spending $77 without a clue as to how we did that.

*Apricot Scrub face wash - my face doesn't feel clean unless I use this stuff. Oh how I miss it when I'm traveling and leave it at home for hubby.

*Music - I am a downloading fanatic these days and have gotten so much great music. I will be posting some punjabi music reviews soon.

*Folding Laundry .. uh .. NOT! I'm just going to pretend I like it because I have to do so much of it.

Ok I have to make a long list of stuff I need to do today before we leave for our mini-getaway. Here I come, Excel.

Bomb Plot

Dude, what the hell is up with this?

Aircraft bomb plot

What is this world coming to? Now we have to worry about people bringing on bombs disguised as soda? This is so freaky that this could have happened today and hundreds of people would have been killed. Thank God they made the arrests and stopped it.

I am all for getting rid of carry-on luggage. As much of an inconvenience it would be to not have my 10 items to entertain me (laptop, ipod book, etc etc), I would deal with it. People bring on massive amounts of luggage on the plane and security doesn't realize that not all threats can be picked up by an x-ray machine. They're too busy telling people to remove their laptops and video cameras from their bags to realize what they're really there to do.

If I have to carry my few items on in a see-through bag then so be it. I'd rather do that than be killed by liquid bombs!

Cali

So I had a great time in Cali. Most of my time was spent with my parents. They just moved into an office so I was busy getting things set up - computers, faxes, documents, etc. And things still aren't done!

I also got a major tan at Great America. Too bad I didn't wear a sleeveless shirt! Now I have 4 inches of white skin followed by brown skin. I love tans .. especially when you feel golden brown. Speaking of which, I need to start using that Jergens glowing cream again on my legs (which are pasty ugly). I also had In n Out twice!

My best friend made me a gorgeous right hand ring! She's taking jewelry manufacturing classes and she made this ring herself, setting the stone and all. It's green .. of course, my favorite color. And one day I'll be able to afford an actual emerald =)

Oh, and one of my high school/college friends is pregnant!!! We always thought she would get married first but I beat her by a month, lol. Anyways, she's almost at her 3 year anniversary and she's 3 months pregnant! I was absolutely in shock. It was so strange to touch her belly and feel it getting hard. Absolutely insane. I still can't believe she's pregnant! My first real/my-age friend to become a mom. Still can't get over it.

I, on the other hand, still have way too many vacations to take before I settle down =)

What else? Ok, so job is accepted and I start on Monday. So much to get done before then. We also just planned a last minute getaway to Philadelphia - I've never been. We'll be there for 2 days.

I have so many clothes to try on to see what fits! I've been living in jeans for way too long - time to try on the work clothes. Hopefully I can wear jeans at this job =) We shall see.

Ok back to work!

I'm Sorry!!

Ok, I owe you guys an apology. I think I freaked all of you out for no reason =) My last post on the old blog may have seemed like something went wrong with the job offer because of the blog. Not true.

So I got this offer and I was stressed and confused because (1) not the location i was hoping for, (2) extremely long hours and weekends .. to the point where he was concerned about me spending an hour a day on iws, (3) the pay was much lower than i expected.

But then there's the positives - (1)amazing opportunity at a startup - my dream come true, coming from being raised in Silicon Valley, (2) working directly with the ceo who is a multimillionaire and took his last company public, (3) having a job where i actually see the results of my work and am directly effecting the company's progress.

So in the end, 2 days ago, I said yes. I'm in cali right now and will start a few days after getting back.

The reason I changed my blog was because I realized that if anyone searched -my name- -my business- "blog" - they would come directly to my blog. And being in the internet field, I wouldn't be surprised if employers would do a search like that (hell, I probably would if I was hiring someone). So I decided I need to be more anonymous, especially with my name and business so I'm not easily searchable. This way i can bitch and moan about work without getting caught =)

Sorry again to those of you who emailed/commented and were concerned .. I should have re-read what I wrote so as to not freak you out!

Ok off to work for my parents and enjoy the cali sun =)
